Wendy Boorn received her Bachelor's degree
in English education from Bucknell University in Lewisburg,
Pennsylvania, in 1967. Following graduation, she married and
spent 11 years as a wife and mother of two. As her full-time
homemaking career transitioned into part-time, she returned
to school, earning her Master of Counseling degree from Arizona
State University in Tempe, Arizona, in 1980. Since then, she
has been in full-time practice as a psychotherapist, staying
current with new trends in her field through continuing education
at many workshops and conferences. She has worked with more
than 1,000 adult clients, including 400 mid-life parents and/or
their adult children.

For
15 years, Boorn also taught counseling psychology classes
as an adjunct professor at several universities. Because of
her command of the language and her subject matter; her honesty,
vulnerability, and humor; and her deep caring for her students,
she consistently received among the highest scores in the
counseling department on written evaluations of her teaching
by the students in her classes.
For the first seven years of her career, Boorn worked in
the addictions field, eventually developing, implementing
and marketing innovative, intensive outpatient family treatment
programs. For the last 20 years, she has owned a successful
private practice, performing individual, couples, family,
and group psychotherapy services, as well as coaching and
consultation services. She specializes in treating relationship
issues and is licensed as a Professional Counselor by her
state and national credentialing bodies. She has had the opportunity
to give lectures, workshops and presentations on many topics
and is continually fascinated by the power of language to
inform and inspire.
The author of Cool, Calm, and
Connected, Boorn sees herself as a student as well
as a teacher and believes that perhaps her greatest asset
is her ongoing commitment to her own personal growth. She
suspects that it is not just her expertise, but also her humility,
sense of humor and ability to empathize that make her clients
want to stay and work hard in therapy with her. She knows
that she and they are both wondrous works-in-progress, and
she infuses this unconditional positive regard into all of
her work.
Raised on the Main Line of Philadelphia, Boorn now lives
in Phoenix, Arizona, and loves to travel, play the piano,
write, attend plays and symphony concerts, swim with her grandchildren,
and create memory books for loved ones. On Sundays, she takes
time to rest, recreate and reflect. Boorn lives one-half mile
from her daughter and considers it perhaps her greatest accomplishment
that, most of the time, both she and her daughter view this
proximity as a blessing.
